The final lure of the Marshall lure line, the Mad Minnow appeared on the scene in the Spring of 1930. A modified Marshall Master Minnow, the Mad Minnow measured 4 inches and sported a speckled steel skirt on a hand-painted body, two props, glass eyes and a chain of red salmon eggs tailed with a spoon. The irony of this lure is that it embodies the tragic end of the Marshall Fly and Tackle Company. For years, Max Marshall had been designing and painting the prototypes for his lure company. What folks didn’t realize was that Marshall had been using lead paint and was known to put the brushes in his mouth at times. By the winter of 1931, Marshall had been admitted to an insane asylum in Poughkeepsie and the company had closed its doors.
